Kee Zain Kee Yusop
Kee Zain Kee Yusop started photography back in 1984 during the analog film era with his FM2. His late father which has owned a darkroom lab in Sabah and also work as the official photographer for British Government in Tawau in the early 60s was his influence.
Like his father, Kee Zain had worked as the official photographer for the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department from 1986 till 2002. “I was working with the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department in Sabah when I started photographing animals. From then on, I explored into event photography; corporate events and gradually into wedding photography” to gain some experiences.
In the year 2000, Kee Zain tried street photography for the sake of interest and learning the urban living in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The interest then grew into a passion and sparked the enthusiasm in documenting urban living in the city through street photography. In 2001, he slowed down his involvement in photography for almost a decade due to work constraint. However, in 2012, he slowly picks up whatever he has left behind using his new digital camera. He started to turn into a new genre; landscape, human interest, portraits, and retraining his street photography skill and knowledge.
- The Official Photographer for the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, Sabah, 1986 till 2002.
- The Official Photographer for Sabah Liason Office in Kuala Lumpur, 2006 till 2016.
During his service as the official photographer for the government department, he had produced photographs for MAHA and ASEAN exhibitions.
Street photography requires my heart and soul in order to produce a deep moment for lookers to be attracted to. A very challenging task to be fulfilled. Let your eyes seek, your mind compose, then it’s up to your finger to press the shutter.
